Mike Belcher, a commentator active on social media, addressed several political and law enforcement issues in a series of posts on January 7, 2026.
In his first post, Belcher commented on allegations involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stating: “I hope this view puts to bed the rampant allegations against ICE. The driver did, in fact, ram an officer with a vehicle (deadly weapon).” (January 7, 2026).
Later that day, Belcher described the pace and atmosphere of an unspecified legislative session: “Moving along a bit slower than hoped today – too many too long speeches that aren’t changing anything. Then, a bit of excitement as the Dem side can’t contain themselves again and begin heckling and profaning from their seats – coming immediately on the heels of chants of ‘boo'” (January 7, 2026).
Belcher also commented on public order concerns in Minnesota by suggesting federal intervention: “Trump needs to nationalize the MN guard and bring in outside guard before this becomes a real big problem.” (January 7, 2026).
ICE has previously faced scrutiny regarding its conduct during arrests and detentions. Incidents involving vehicles used against officers have led to legal debates about appropriate use of force by law enforcement agencies.
The reference to “nationalizing” the Minnesota National Guard alludes to the process where federal authorities assume control over state military forces during periods of civil unrest or emergency. This measure is rare but has been employed in U.S. history when local resources are deemed insufficient to maintain order.
