Mike Belcher, a social media commentator, posted a series of tweets on September 16 and 17, 2025, criticizing both perceived online harassment and media coverage following a violent incident involving a released criminal.
On September 16, Belcher alleged targeted harassment, stating, “Oh look, another Leftist promoting attacks on me and my family.” Later that day, he referenced a recent crime linked to the judicial system’s decisions: “In the aftermath of a murder committed by a violent criminal the magistrate wrongly released a month after this… it did not age well.”
The following morning, Belcher addressed what he described as uniformity in media narratives surrounding the incident. He wrote, “In the days since the entire MSM has come in line with this strategy. Kirk was ‘far right,’ or ‘spewing hate speech.’ The assassin was just sweetly protecting his lover. The killer was a far-right Republican too dontcha know. Every media outlet got marching orders.”
Belcher’s comments reflect ongoing debates about media bias and criminal justice procedures. In recent years, public scrutiny has increased regarding pretrial release decisions by magistrates and their possible consequences for community safety. Media organizations have also faced criticism from commentators across the political spectrum over their framing of politically charged incidents.
