Mike Belcher shares views on presuppositionalism and economics in recent tweets
Mike Belcher, a commentator active on social media, posted a series of tweets on August 22 and 23, 2025, discussing topics ranging from philosophy to economics.
On August 22, Belcher reflected on his philosophical journey: “I arrived at presuppositionalism independently long before I heard of Van Til, Bahnsen or Rushdoony. I reasoned my way into realizing the limits of reason – you can’t start from nothing, and that deepest level of something is, necessarily, faith.”
Later the same day, he commented on the nature of economics as a discipline: “I get the critique here, and there’s some truth to it, but the reality is that economics is pseudoscience – far closer to alchemy than physics.”
On August 23, Belcher responded succinctly to another post with “lol”.
Presuppositionalism is a school of Christian apologetics associated with figures such as Cornelius Van Til and Greg Bahnsen. The approach argues that all reasoning is based on foundational beliefs or presuppositions that cannot themselves be proven by reason alone. Economics has long been debated as a social science; while it employs mathematical models and empirical data like natural sciences do, critics have questioned its predictive power and scientific rigor compared to disciplines such as physics.
