Mike Belcher posted a series of tweets on August 15, 2025, discussing U.S. and Russian relations and referencing military displays involving former President Donald Trump.
In one post from August 15, 2025, Belcher wrote, “Trump’s engineering B2 spirits overhead and bears on the ground for the Russian delegation.” Later that evening, he expanded on his perspective regarding Russia, stating in a tweet dated August 15, 2025: “Truth is more complicated. Russia is our enemy – not because of Ukraine, or stupid Russiagate, but because they’re still run by Soviet forces, and they still have Soviet plans.” In a third post on the same day, Belcher simply commented: “Ummm……..”
Belcher’s remarks reflect ongoing public debate over U.S.-Russia relations. His reference to “B2 spirits” alludes to the American B-2 Spirit stealth bomber—a strategic aircraft developed for penetrating dense anti-aircraft defenses—while “bears” may refer to Russian Tu-95 bombers known as “Bears.” These terms often symbolize demonstrations of military power between the two countries.
His comments about Russia being “still run by Soviet forces” echo longstanding concerns among some analysts that elements within Russia’s leadership maintain policies reminiscent of those from the Soviet era. This view persists despite significant changes since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
