Mike Belcher has recently posted a series of tweets addressing political terminology and alleged foreign interference involving U.S. interests.
On September 3, 2025, Belcher questioned the complexity of classical liberal responses in political debates. He wrote, “Why does it seem like every ‘classical liberal’ response to this is some kind of abstract concept that requires a minor in philosophy and a stint clerking for @LPNational to come up with?”
The following day, September 4, 2025, Belcher critiqued the use of the term “conservative,” suggesting it no longer fits current circumstances. He stated, ‘”Conservative” is no longer a word suited to our times. It only causes confusion and disagreements over semantics instead of principles.’
On September 5, 2025, Belcher referenced an individual near former President Donald Trump at an event, alleging ties to activities aiding the Chinese Communist Party against U.S. military interests. He claimed, “The guy two to the left of Trump runs a company just exposed as assisting the Chinese Communist Party in subverting, sabotaging and targetting of the United States military and personnel – a county waging assymetric warfare against us.”
Belcher’s remarks reflect ongoing public debates about ideological labels in American politics as well as concerns about foreign influence operations targeting national security. In recent years, issues related to definitions within conservatism have led to broader discussions among commentators about language and principles in politics. Additionally, there have been multiple reports highlighting increased attention on efforts by foreign actors—including those linked to China—to gather intelligence or influence U.S. institutions.
