Mineral Springs was the third largest nursing home in Carroll County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
The facility offered 87 beds at that time, which was two more than the county’s average. Mineral Springs aided an average of 67.7 residents over the period.
With an overall CMS rating of 2 out of 5, its performance was below the New Hampshire nursing home average rating of 2.9.
Wolfeboro Bay Center was the largest nursing home in Carroll County as of the first quarter, with 104 beds, while Mountain View Community followed with 103 beds.
Mineral Springs had accrued $32,148 in fines through two penalties by the first quarter of 2026.
Carroll County, New Hampshire, had two for-profit nursing homes during this period.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates continue to show that the nation’s population of older adults is growing as the number of younger age groups declines. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The older adult population in the United States has increased significantly over the past century, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 study found that nearly half of adults age 65 and older, about 28 million people, will likely need long-term services and supports. That study also projected that more than a third in this age group could eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
