Rep. James Thibault, a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, has used his social media platform to comment on recent developments in state education policy and campus discourse.
On December 13, 2025, Thibault criticized the actions of a publicly funded university, writing: “Insane that a publicly funded university is allowed to perpetuate this garbage. It’s a good thing we banned DEI in NH public universities—now we just need to make sure it’s enforced and help our sister states fight back!” The statement refers to New Hampshire’s legislative action banning Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives at public universities.
Later that day, Thibault posted another message regarding political discourse on campuses: “Ideological diversity and discourse aren’t the Left’s strong suit.”
The following morning, on December 14, he commented on student engagement after recent changes in school policy: “Huge win that we’ve been seeing great results from! Students are socializing, playing, and most importantly, learning better, not being glued to TikTok and Instagram.”
New Hampshire became one of several states in recent years to enact legislation restricting or banning DEI programs at public colleges and universities. Proponents argue such measures ensure educational focus remains on academic achievement rather than identity-based initiatives. Critics contend these bans limit support for marginalized groups and stifle campus inclusivity efforts.
Thibault’s comments reflect ongoing debates over free speech and ideological representation within higher education institutions across the United States. The conversation also coincides with broader national discussions about technology use among students and its impact on learning outcomes.
