Rep. James Thibault, a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, used his Twitter account on January 7, 2026, to comment on legislative activity and debate within the chamber.
In his first post, Thibault announced the passage of HB194-FN, stating: “HB194-FN, which protects parents and children by broadening the criminal penalty for interfering with a custody order, is passed 194-152” (January 7, 2026).
Later in the day, Thibault criticized remarks from Democratic Representative David Meuse regarding HB609. He wrote: “Dem Rep. David Meuse strawmans HB609 by complaining about ‘war hammers’ and other weapons, apparently arguing that unelected state agencies should have the ability to regulate individuals’ Second Amendment and Article 2-a rights instead of such decisions being made by the elected” (January 7, 2026).
Thibault followed up with another post referencing Meuse’s comments during debate over shifting regulatory authority from state agencies to elected officials. Thibault said: “Meuse calls returning power FROM bureaucrats TO the elected representatives of the people a ‘Concord power grab’ “ (January 7, 2026).
HB194-FN concerns modifications to New Hampshire’s laws on custody orders and aims to increase penalties for violations related to custodial interference. The measure was approved by a margin of 42 votes in the House. Meanwhile, debate around HB609 has centered on questions about how firearms and related weapons are regulated in New Hampshire. The state constitution’s Article 2-a affirms citizens’ right to keep and bear arms.
