Rep. James Thibault, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has posted a series of statements on social media addressing the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk and its broader implications.
On September 10, 2025, Thibault expressed condolences to Kirk’s family, writing, “Praying for Charlie Kirk and his family after this vile and horrific act. We cannot live in a society where this is how people treat their political opposition.”
The following day, Thibault addressed concerns about school environments and their influence on societal violence. In a post dated September 11, 2025, he stated, “We need to get these pieces of garbage out of our schools. This is how we end up with events like this.”
Later that same day, Thibault released an official statement regarding Kirk’s death: “My statement on the assassination of Charlie Kirk yesterday. He was a great man that inspired so many, including multitudes of young men, to dedicate themselves to public service, to our nation, and to our God. May he rest in peace.”
Charlie Kirk was a prominent conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA. His public presence made him a frequent figure in national debates about free speech and campus culture.
The incident has drawn attention from political leaders across the spectrum who have condemned violence against public figures as detrimental to democratic discourse.
