Sy Montgomery and Elizabeth Marshall Thomas, best friends and renowned writers on animal behavior, cowrote this series of short essays on animals and other creatures, both wild and domestic. Each essay is its own close encounter wherein Montgomery and Thomas reflect on what they have learned from New Hampshire wildlife and other more exotic species such as the pink dolphin and the hyrax. Their collective experiences and insights query the notion that humans are the superior species and illuminate how interconnected our lives are with those of the natural world.
