New England College Athletic Director, Dave DeCew, is pleased to announce the addition of women’s wrestling as a varsity sport for the 2023–2024 season.

“We see this as a great opportunity to grow our department by offering Women’s Wrestling as our next varsity sport,” stated DeCew. “Coach DeRosa and his staff are prepared to take on this next challenge and bring us forward. We know the young women in our program will receive great mentorship and coaching, but also will add to our community as a whole. There are a few young women currently participating at the club level; this is the right time to move this program forward.”

Women’s wrestling is a rapidly emerging sport in the NCAA, and there are currently 33 Division-III programs. New England College will be only the second institution in New England to sponsor it as a varsity sport. Current Men’s Wrestling Head Coach Ray DeRosa and his staff will oversee the program.

With the addition of women’s wrestling, NEC will boast 20 varsity sports in competition in 2023–2024.

“New England College has taken this great opportunity to grow women’s wrestling in the Northeast region by adding an official NCAA team,” stated DeRosa. “Women’s wrestling has taken off, not only in the Northeast at the high school level, but also across the country. Being one of the first colleges to provide this opportunity is an honor and a privilege and one that we are very excited about. My coaching staff and I look forward to providing the young women a great educational and wrestling experience throughout their college years.”
