Belmont Public Library issued the following announcement on Aug. 5.
Kelly H: Dear Martin by Nic Stone
Justyce McAllister goes above and beyond. A Yale-bound senior and debate team champion, he is well regarded as intelligent and respectable to his teachers and peers. But that reputation does not proceed him when he is unfairly arrested while trying to help his on-again-off-again girlfriend Melo get home safe.
Angered by this experience and his building exposure to the racism of his white friends, Justyce begins to write letters to civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. in an effort to “Be Like Martin.”
He begins to see the world’s true colors over the course of his project but it comes to a screeching halt when Justyce and his friend Manny face the wrath of the police once again.
