RFP - Invitation to Bid | The Blue Diamond Gallery

The Selectboard in Sanbornton invite qualified roadway engineers to submit an assessment of Dr. True road in Sanbornton and to provide recommendations to mitigate the on-going issues with the road.

Scope of Work

  • Identify options to mitigate the effects of mud on passenger travel and to reduce sediment run off from Dr True Rd in into Lake Winnisquam. Options should include:
    • Paving - including evaluation of existing roadbed suitability and required work/repairs
    • Repair/restoration of current gravel road
    • Upgrades/changes to drainage to manage waterflow
  • Solutions should provide minimum options for immediate mitigation of the two issues of concern that could be implemented in the spring of 2023. The minimum end state would be 100% passability of the road throughout the year, but mitigation of the sediment run off is highly desirable. Plans may include future work to improve either or both the issues through the application of additional Best Management Practices or other means to improve the situation further.
  • The roadway in question runs from the intersection of Lower Bay Rd and Dr True Rd through the first intersection of Dr True Rd and Maple Circle. The intent would be to apply the final mitigation solution approximately 30 feet in every direction from that intersection.

Additional Information

  • Dr True Rd experiences significant issues with mud during the spring which often renders it unpassable to vehicles for days or weeks at a time. Access for vehicles - particularly emergency vehicles - is the primary concern.
  • Run off from Dr True Rd is a significant contributor to silt and sediment in Lake Winnisquam. The secondary - but highly important - concern is reducing that run off to preserve the quality of the lake.
  • Ideally any solution will address both of the concerns, even if the run off issue is not solved completely.
  • Any solution to address the issues with mud should consider the impact to residents and properties along the roadway. Managing run off and preventing unnecessary flooding of property is a concern.
  • Future studies are planned to address similar issues and concerns on Maple Circle, but they are not within the scope of this RFP.
  • The Sanbornton Highway Department will provide all available information on the condition of Dr True Rd, including any recent repair history.Specific road questions can be directed to Johnny Van Tassel, Highway Director.603.455.5882
